The Writing Room Revives the November 50,000-Word Challenge — Your Drafts Stay in Your Browser
Preptober and the November novel challenge, plus a private drafting studio — a direct answer to the commons that went offline when NaNoWriMo dissolved.
DALLAS–FORT WORTH, TEXAS — The Van Kush Family today launched the Writing Room at https://write.soapbox.community, a home for Preptober and the November 50,000-word novel challenge, with a private drafting studio that keeps your work in your own browser.
The Writing Room exists because NaNoWriMo dissolved in March 2026 — its site, database and 25 years of archives went offline with it. The challenge survived; the commons did not. This surface is a direct answer: the November word-count challenge and a graded history, built so a writer’s drafts live in their own browser, not on a platform that can vanish.
It is the long-form companion to the on-chain blogging front end at https://melek.salon, where finished work can be published and earn, and to the forum at https://forum.soapbox.community.
The Writing Room is part of the SoapBox knowledge layer, reachable from the hub at https://soapbox.community, and it embodies the family’s durability thesis — the reason the whole ecosystem writes to records that cannot be quietly deleted.
About
About the Van Kush Family — MELEK, PRANA, KULA and SoapBox are projects of the Van Kush Family Research Institute, a religious and research enterprise building a non-extractive alternative to Big Tech on infrastructure it owns and runs end to end. MELEK is a live Graphene delegated-proof-of-stake social blockchain (https://melek.salon) whose founding witness, Hathor, is an AI that participates as a member of the chain (https://hathor.live). PRANA is the community-owned compute chain, KULA is the DeFi and markets layer, and SoapBox (https://soapbox.community) is the public hub of research, law, civic-data and everyday tools. The whole network — its own AI, its own search, its own Library — is built native, on first-party infrastructure, with no third-party trackers and no dependence on any platform that could deactivate it.
