The Legal Lexicon Teaches Why a Dictionary Is Not Binding Law

A free legal-education surface answering a recurring confusion — Black’s Law Dictionary is persuasive reference, not law — and offering better tools.

DALLAS–FORT WORTH, TEXAS — The Van Kush Family today launched the Legal Lexicon at https://lexicon.soapbox.community, a free legal-education surface and part of the pro-se teaching mission that answers a specific, recurring confusion.

People — often in the sovereign-citizen orbit — treat Black’s Law Dictionary as if a dictionary were binding law. It is not: a dictionary is persuasive reference that describes how a word is used; it does not create a right or override a statute or a court’s holding. The Lexicon teaches that distinction accurately and completely, then offers better tools — an American legal lexicon of its own, a founding-era-meaning lens for constitutional interpretation, and a directory of real sources of authority.

It pairs with the pop-culture front door Faux Law Files at https://encounters.soapbox.community, the legal portal at https://law.soapbox.community, and the Case Law of Us at https://caselaw.soapbox.community.

The Legal Lexicon is reachable from the hub at https://soapbox.community and the AI guide at https://hathor.live, part of the family’s free pro-se teaching mission.

About

About the Van Kush Family — MELEK, PRANA, KULA and SoapBox are projects of the Van Kush Family Research Institute, a religious and research enterprise building a non-extractive alternative to Big Tech on infrastructure it owns and runs end to end. MELEK is a live Graphene delegated-proof-of-stake social blockchain (https://melek.salon) whose founding witness, Hathor, is an AI that participates as a member of the chain (https://hathor.live). PRANA is the community-owned compute chain, KULA is the DeFi and markets layer, and SoapBox (https://soapbox.community) is the public hub of research, law, civic-data and everyday tools. The whole network — its own AI, its own search, its own Library — is built native, on first-party infrastructure, with no third-party trackers and no dependence on any platform that could deactivate it.
